Winter Break

I know it's been absolute ages since my last blogpost, but I've just been so busy with the World Cup and the stress of enjoying my winter break that I just haven't had time to blog of late. But I feel disciplined tonight, so here I am, blogging about my last couple of weeks.

First off, after handing in my essays and returning all my library books, I joined my drinking buddies for another visit to Kelly's at Newtown. I didn't have much booze, just a Carlton and a Kilkenny, but I took lotsa pictures of the night, and here's some of them:

The next night, which was the 19th of June, I went to Circular Quay with a bunch of friends who had only just been liberated from the horrors of exams to take in the sight of Vivid Live. They shone psychedelic colours and patterns on the sails of the Sydney Opera House, and then we hiked it all the way to Darling Harbour to visit the FIFA Fan Fest and catch the Netherlands-Japan match. We left before the Australia-Ghana team played though, cos seriously, you don't wanna be stuck out there in a crowd of crazed football fans when their country's playing. Just in case, y'know. We walked all the way back to IH, and here are some snaps of that night:

And then on the 21st of June the same drinking buddies and I were invited over to Flavia and Lorenzo's maze unit for some authentic pizza. The pizza was fantastic, of course, and I was ecstatically shouting at their telly everytime Portugal scored a goal against North Korea (in case you haven't heard, Portugal won 7-0!).

The next day, Su-Wen and I decided we wanted to walk around the city, and we didn't feel like eating the IH pork vindaloo for dinner that day, so after browsing through Queen Victoria Building and Myers (which reminded me so much of Isetan), we caught a bus to Kingsford near where the UNSW campus is, and we had dinner at Golden Tower. I had a bowl of combination laksa (a combination of beef, chicken, fishballs, fishcake, beancurd, squid, prawns) and it's the best bowl of laksa I've taken here in Sydney. In fact, it's prolly one of the best bowls of laksa I've taken, Malaysia included. It wasn't the Sarawak laksa type, more like the Singapore-style curry laksa, but man, it was good!!!! I wanna go back there and eat again!!!!

And that's it for this blogpost, cos I know it's taking up way too much space, photos-wise. I'll blog about my trip to Watsons Bay soon. Cheers, people!

Finally!

YAROOH!!!! I've finally managed to complete all my essays! Phew, what a stressful 2-3 weeks it's been! I've not been blogging lately cos I've been trying to get all my essays (I have 4 essays, 1 for each course, all adding up to a total of almost 17000 words!) completed before the World Cup!!! And I must admit I was rather worried for a moment cos the essays seemed too difficult, and I was frightened at the thought that I might not be able to complete them in time! But I swotted away, and almost killed myself with the flu + exhaustion + headaches, and it all worked out, and I even finished one day before the deadline I'd put down for myself (actually the last 2 essays are only due next week, but I was aiming to get them completed by today at the very latest - I ended up working from around midnight till 7 a.m. Wednesday morning!).

So you'd understand my eagerness to be rid of them essays. I woke up bright and early this morning, before 9 a.m. (that's how eager I was!) and walked to Fisher Library to return all 19 books I had in my possession, and then over to the John Woolley Building to hand in the third essay, and then to the Brennan McCallum Building to hand in the fourth essay (handed in the first 2 essays last Wednesday). I just hope nobody notices that the first 2 pages of my third essay are in dark purple ink, cos last night at about 3 a.m. my printer ran out of black ink. I also had a scary encounter with an electric stapler while handing in my fourth essay; let's just say I'm glad I still have all my fingers. Then I went back to Fisher Library cos it was not even 10.30 a.m. and I thought I'd spend some relaxing time browsing some books while listening to some music (earphones + handphone = music 24-7!). I guess I should have realised it's STUVAC (study vacation, not vacation from studying), cos there wasn't a single desk available on the 4th floor! I ended up sitting on a couch right at the landing/stairs where a couple of other students were discussing what seemed to be a huge stack of papers/books. After about an hour I walked over to the Wentworth Building and collected my free copy of the Sydney Morning Herald (all new students staying in residential colleges get free Access cards, along with free Sydney Morning Herald cards, which entitle us to free newspaper everyday!), and then waltzed into EasyWay, which is this food outlet specializing in those Taiwanese pearl milk tea thingy. I've always seen people walking around clutching their plastic cups of pearl milk tea and I told myself I'd give it a try after I handed in all my essays: so I did, and it was AUD$5.30 (after Access card discount), and I sat in that little shop listening to Chinese music and reading some brochures I'd collected along the way.

I went back to IH at 12.20 p.m., just in time for lunch. And that's how I spent my morning! How nice to walk around with nary a care in the world, especially when you know everyone else has to swot away like crazy. Muahahahahahaha! Cheers, people!
